According to Marca, Raul de Tomas is set to sign for Rayo Vallecano.

The transfer window is closed, but the Spanish attacker is still set to sign for Vallecano, meaning that he won’t be able to play a single game until the January transfer window.

This is a very bizarre move to say the least.

Not only does a move outside of the transfer window leave De Tomas in limbo until January – all-but killing his dream of playing at the World Cup, while a move to Vallecano is also quite bizarre at this point.

Indeed, after netting 17 goals in La Liga last season, De Tomas was the hottest of properties over the past six months. He was courted by Arsenal and Newcastle in January and in the summer, while Bayern Munich also had a sniff earlier in the summer window.

De Tomas looked set to make a step upwards after such a fantastic season for Espanyol, but a move to Vallecano – who finished on the same number of points as Espanyol last term, is a sidewards, if not backwards, step.

The Spanish striker seemed to have the world at his feet, and a move to a team playing in Europe seemed almost inevitable, but it looks as though that dream has faded and another season or two playing for a mid-table La Liga club seems to be on the agenda.

De Tomas should’ve jumped at the chance of joining Arsenal or Newcastle when he could have, because now, it looks like his career is somewhat stalling, and he’s not even going to be able to play until January.
