The sheer quantity of players at Molineux is going to be a big test for new Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Paul Lambert.
When Fosun took over as owners of Wolverhampton Wanderers back in the summer, a lot was quickly expected of the club. There was a whole host of new faces that were brought in to increase their chances of promotion, and it left the squad feeling quite full as they entered the new Championship season.
After the failures of Walter Zenga, the task now falls into the hands of Paul Lambert. At the likes of former clubs Villa, Norwich and Blackburn he certainly had selection dilemmas to deal with, but nothing quite on this scale.
Wolves’ fans celebrate their second goal
The operation at Wolves is simple – promotion. In order to achieve that, Lambert will have to be ruthless when it comes to wielding the axe down on at least five or six players who are deemed surplus to requirements. Many people have varying opinions on who to let go dependent on how much they’ve seen of different players, but it all comes down to quality.
Lambert’s suitability for the job will certainly be tested to the limit here, because how the players and fans react to his decision making could determine the long term success of the Scot’s tenure at Molineux. Either way, January will be an interesting time for everyone involved at Wolves.
