Newcastle United have reportedly held talks with the French side already.

Newcastle United are being linked with a move for the Strasbourg midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko.

Various media reports claim that Newcastle have already entered talks to sign Sissoko in the January transfer window.

And according to The Sun, the two clubs are close to agreeing a fee of around £13 million – with the 21-year-old tipped to ‘jump at the move’.

The newspaper adds that Strasbourg, who are hovering above the Ligue 1 relegation positions, have already begun the search for Sissoko’s successor.

But what do the French side’s fans make of the rumours he could soon become a Newcastle player?

This is what they’re saying on Twitter…

“It is true that the sum is realistic”

“Already the staff and the trainer are struggling to find a stable team. To sell him would be a mistake considering the beginning of the season (has been) rather complicated for the club.”

“And let’s go and let another one go”

“Remember what we did with the €15m (from selling Jean-Eudes) Aholou … You buy yourself a team … Sissoko is excellent but we are talking about €14m profit since we got him for €1m. If next year (his form dips) and (he) does not find his level … There is matter to consider”

“We sold Aholou in the summer market! €15m would not be enough if you want to ‘redo a team’ in the winter transfer window … the players are much more expensive! and if you think that all the players will be crusaders, no one will buy then …”

“We will not buy everyone in winter (window) but the money will stay for this summer. If you replace him well, and you can (replicate his success with) a guy or two again … If the player wants to go to Newcastle too … Nobody is irreplaceable and Sissoko proved it by replacing Aholou wonderfully for €1m”

“Oh yeah, hard to refuse if it’s true”

“€30m, otherwise nothing”

The Newcastle manager Steve Bruce recently expressed his regret at Mohamed Diame’s summer departure, and Sissoko’s arrival would help to restore some presence to the Magpies’ midfield.

Sissoko cost Strasbourg £1.8 million (Transfermarkt) from Brest in the summer of 2018 and has gone on to play 41 times in the French top flight.
