Some Aston Villa fans have been expressing their surprise after hearing Manchester United want to sign Tom Heaton this summer.
The Telegraph have reported that the Red Devils are interested in signing Heaton, but if we’re being honest, it’s a move that doesn’t make that much sense.
United have three quality goalkeepers already in the shape of Sergio Romero, Dean Henderson and David De Gea, so signing Heaton would just add more unnecessary depth.
Of course, there’s the chance that Romero and De Gea could be on their way this summer, in which case, signing Heaton would make a bit more sense, but even then, Villa fans had questions about why Heaton would want the move.
The goalkeeper is coming towards the back-end of his career, and he still has a lot to offer, so why would he want to join a club where he’s likely to be only a backup?
