Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has stated that ‘football’s a strange game of people’s opinions’ after he was asked to share his thoughts on Jurgen Klopp previously being baffled by him playing in midfield for England, as he told ITV Sport.
In September, Gareth Southgate opted to play the Liverpool right-back in midfield during their win over Andorra during a World Cup qualifier.
That experiment lasted only 45 minutes, before the 23-year-old was shifted back to his natural position.
That call by Southgate left his Liverpool manager perplexed, as he stated that he ‘doesn’t understand’ why he did such a thing, as he told Sky Sports.
Alexander-Arnold was asked to share his thoughts on his club manager’s previous claims and he issued this response.
“Football’s a strange game of people’s opinions,” said Alexander-Arnold. “I think he obviously wants to see me come away and play a lot.
“He wants me to come and perform the way I do for my club. It probably plays on his mind why I haven’t been able to replicate club form for my country as well.
“But like I said, he will have his opinions on why that is and so will everyone else.”

Well, Alexander-Arnold started at right-back for his country during their thumping 10-0 win over San Marino on Monday.
On paper, it stated that TAA was a right-back, but in truth, like the rest of the England team, they were far more advanced.
That right-sided area for England is perhaps the most difficult to break into, with Southgate able to pick several top stars, including recent European Cup winner, Reece James.
Then there is the experienced duo of Kyle Walker and Keiran Trippier, either way, there is a reason why Southgate initially decided to take four RB’s with him to Euro 2020, only for TAA to get injured before the final hurdle.
