‘Straightforward one’: Sky pundit baffled by Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino stance

Michael Brown has expressed his surprise that Tottenham Hotspur haven’t appointed Mauricio Pochettino as he closes in on becoming Chelsea’s next manager.

Both Tottenham and Chelsea are without a permanent manager, and with Mauricio Pochettino being a free-agent, then his name was always going to pop up.

For Spurs fans, they have that connection with the Argentine that guided them to many top-four finishes, including the Champions League final, whilst playing the best football they had seen at the club in many years.

But to now watch him close in on the Chelsea job is going to hurt the supporters, Pochettino clearly doesn’t see the West London club as fierce rivals like Arsenal – Ryan Mason reacted to Pochettino edging closer to the Chelsea job.

Either way, given that the 51-year-old is Chelsea-bound, then former Spurs man Brown thought that it would have been ‘straightforward’ for him to re-join the north London club, as he told Sky Sports News (25/04/23).

“I think there is no question about nipping in, I think Daniel Levy would have had conversations with many people,” said Brown.

“There are some really top managers who have been linked with Spurs. The first time with Conte, it took a while, then they went and got him.

“Why is the situation different now with Pochettino, why he hasn’t been put in the building straight away? I am sure that they tried and spoke to him, whether it’s the manager or the club itself that’s not doing this deal because you would think it would be a quite straightforward one.”

It’s understandable why Spurs fans would want Pochettino back. It’s doom and gloom everywhere they look.

Never mind not being able to win matches, they are losing matches in an abject fashion.

Those paying the tickets just want some enjoyment back and the last time that happened was when Pochettino was in the dugout.

But that shouldn’t mean that they should bring him back because it doesn’t guarantee that he produces the same performances as he did the first time around.
