Some Arsenal fans on Twitter are okay about the prospect of losing William Saliba to Rennes – but only if Eduardo Camavinga comes the other way.
Saliba has been linked with a move away from North London this summer.
And according to Ouest France, Rennes are the latest club to lodge an interest in the Arsenal centre-back.
The 20-year-old joined the Gunners in a £27 million deal two years ago but, bizarrely, is yet to make his senior debut for the club.
Mikel Arteta doesn’t appear to have much plans to keep him at London Colney this summer.
Interestingly, Rennes midfielder Camavinga is reportedly on Edu’s wishlist [ESPN] and Arsenal fans on social media would want the 18-year-old sensation in a swap deal.
Here’s how they reacted to the speculation:
Logical
HITC Sport wrote earlier on Saturday about how a swap – or a player-plus-cash arrangement – makes sense for Arsenal.
But they still rarely happen in football and the supporters probably shouldn’t hold their breath.
it’s worth noting that many more Gunners fans want to see Saliba in Arteta’s senior squad next season.
After all, he has just had an excellent half-season loan in France with Nice, reminding everybody of his talent.
At 20, Saliba is only going to get so much better and if Arsenal do try to cut their losses, without giving him a single minute of competitive action, it could be a horrible mistake.
