Partizan Belgrade defender Stranhinja Pavlovic was left flattered by interest shown in him by Celtic last week, The Daily Record report.

Hoops manager Neil Lennon was said by The Scottish Sun to have made a trip to Wales last week to scout the player during a UEFA Europa League qualifying match against Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The Serbian youth international played the entire 90 minutes of the encounter as he makes a bid to win a regular place in the Partizan defence.

The Record believe he is a £4.5m target for clubs such as Juventus, but with no firm interest as of yet, Celtic could have the drop on any other interested parties.

As quoted by The Daily Record, Pavlovic said of the Celtic link and his future: “I was flattered when I heard about Celtic watching me in Wales. But for me I have to only concentrate on my immediate future and that’s at Partizan.

“I’ve got to think I will be at this club for a long time. I can’t afford to get caught up in speculation before the next transfer window.

“My favourite clubs in Europe are Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United. My ambition is to play for one of those teams one day.”

Pavlovic, still just 18, has only made 17 senior appearances so far in his career but is already achieving things.

He was a firm fixture of the Partizan side that won the Serbian Cup last season, playing in every minute of the competition and helping keep a clean sheet against rivals Red Star in the final.

What he lacks in experience he appears to make up with potential and if it’s true that giant clubs like Juventus are keen on the player, he could well be worth the investment for Celtic before cash rich sides jump in.

Despite his young age, Transfermarkt already lists his height at 6ft 4in, so he’d certainly add a physical presence to the Celtic defensive line at the very least.

The Hoops need a new centre-back to provide capable cover for Jozo Simunovic, Kristoffer Ajer and summer signing Christopher Jullien. The only natural back-up beyond those three is Jack Hendry, but the former Dundee man appears to be a distance away from making appearances.

With Celtic potentially utilising a 3-5-2 formation at the times this season another defender really needs to arrive before the end of the transfer window.

Will it be Pavlovic?
