Chris Sutton labelled Diogo Jota as a ‘rotter’ after accusing him of diving during Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former striker urged the Liverpool forward, 25, to ‘stop it’ and told him that he is ‘better than that’.

Liverpool were leading 2-1 heading into the final ten minutes of the game at Selhurst Park.

Before VAR urged the on-field referee, Kevin Friend, to look at his monitor and award a proposed foul on Jota.

Vicente Guaita was the man punished for seemingly bringing the player down, even though replays showed Jota running into the Crystal Palace goalkeeper.

Sutton named him as ‘the winner’ for his simulation game and sent the Liverpool player this message.

“Absolutely spot on,” said Sutton. “But the winner of this week’s simulation game is Jota, you rotter.

“Stop it. You are better than that. Every week. Come on, that’s poor.”

Two of Liverpool’s goals scored at Palace were questionable because some felt that Roberto Firmino, who was in an offside position, interfered with the second goal that was scored by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s men were the better team during the first period, they were on the back door for most of the second half.

For them, it’s a valuable three points because they have, once again, done the business without their star duo, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Whilst for many it’s obvious that the Premier League title race is over, those on Merseyside will be hoping Pep Guardiola has a Kevin Keegan-like collapse and allows them to take the title.
