Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has revealed that tentative talks have been held regarding a new contract and reiterated his desire to stay put.

Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has told Sky Sports that moves have been made to keep him at the Britannia Stadium.

The former England international will see his current contract with the Potters expire at the end of the season.

If no fresh terms are agreed, he will drop into the free agent pool in the summer.

It has been suggested by the Daily Express that Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace are among those keeping a close eye on his situation during the January transfer window.

Crouch has, however, maintained that staying at Stoke would be his preferred choice, and he is refusing to waver in that stance.

He told Sky Sports: “There’s been a few words spoken, hopefully I can stay. I really enjoy it. I believe this is the best squad we’ve had for a long, long time and hopefully I’ll be a part of that.

“I’m happy here, I’ve said that all along, so hopefully I’ll play a part in the future here.”

Crouch has spent three-and-a-half years with Stoke and is fast closing in on 150 appearances for the club.

He is also edging towards 100 Premier League goals and is determined to reach that personal milestone.

At 33 years of age he should have a few more years left in him yet, with his game all about aerial prowess and clever movement, rather than pace and power.
