Stoke City signed the defender from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and he looked woefully short of form against the Championship club.

Stoke City lost 2-0 to Bristol City on Tuesday evening, as the Potters crashed out of the EFL Cup at the third round stage.
Goals from Famara Diedhiou and Matty Taylor ensured the hosts ran out comfortable winners, as Stoke were left to rue a change of formation and some below-par performances.

Among the Stoke players who came in for criticism after the final whistle was Austrian international Kevin Wimmer, who signed for Mark Hughes’ team from Tottenham Hotspur back in the summer.
The centre-back struggled for game time at Spurs and the arrival of Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth ensured there was no place for Wimmer in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans.

As a result, he headed to Stoke where he would have been hoping to make up for lost time, but on Tuesday’s evidence he has a lot of work to do in the weeks ahead.
Wimmer impressed when he first featured for Tottenham alongside Toby Alderweireld, but he fell out of favour last season and was rarely seen again.
Stoke are famed for having no-nonsense centre-backs and Wimmer has been tasked with replacing the injured Ryan Shawcross.
