A number of Stoke City fans have taken to Twitter to comment on James McClean’s latest display as well as the rumours linking the winger with a potential January move to Nottingham Forest.

The Sun (19/1; page 67) reported at the weekend that Martin O’Neill is keen to sign McClean as he continues to adjust to life back at the City Ground having been appointed as Aitor Karanka’s successor earlier this month.

McClean is a divisive character for various reasons, so it is possible that the Forest fans will have mixed responses to the reports that they apparently want to sign the Republic of Ireland international during this window.

But based on how some of the Stoke fans have reacted to his performance against Leeds at the weekend and the rumours themselves, perhaps the club should be more determined to make a move happen.

McClean provided the assist for what proved to be the winner after being brought on for Nathan Jones’ side in the 2-1 victory against the league leaders.

And his cameo was lauded by the Stoke fans, with some suggesting that they now hope to see the wide-man – who actually played in a central role against Leeds – stick around, in comments that certainly will make interesting reading for Forest fans.
