Stoke City lost 4-1 to Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round of the FA Cup, but what did supporters think of Philipp Wollscheid’s contribution?
Philipp Wollscheid’s early matches in a Stoke City shirt suggested the Potters had signed another quality defender, and yet the German international’s showing against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday painted a very different picture of the 25-year-old.
The loanee from Bayer Leverkusen has played five Premier League matches since his January switch, and he appeared to be settling in well. But back-to-back 4-1 defeats – first to Manchester City and now to Blackburn – have raised plenty of questions over the centre-back’s ability to cut it in England.
The FA Cup has a tendency to give quality players days they would much rather forget, so it may be a case of reserving judgement for a while longer. But the Stoke faithful may not have much patience after seeing their side humbled twice in a week.
