Stoke picked up their first win of the season thanks to two goals from Joe Allen.

A Joe Allen brace was the difference as Stoke came out 2-0 winners over Sunderland.
The Welsh midfielder put the Potters ahead within eight minutes, heading Marko Arnautovic’s cross past Jordan Pickford.
Sunderland would have been happy to go in just a goal down at half time, but Allen had other ideas. Stoke’s number four found the net again in first half stoppage time, firing a half volley through a sea of players to make it 2-0 before the break.

Before kick off, both Stoke and Sunderland were occupants of the relegation zone, but the win lifted the Potters out of the bottom three temporarily, only to find themselves back in there after West Ham’s win in the late kick off.
Alas, it was a first win of the season for Mark Hughes, who owes a lot to Allen, who has been his main source of goals this season, which he probably was not expecting when he signed the midfielder from Liverpool.

For Sunderland, it is further misery as they stay bottom and win-less. Another sad week for Black Cats supporters, whose wait for a Premier League win goes on.
Stoke fans have reacted to the win on Twitter, paying homage to the Welsh Pirlo.
