According to a report in the Daily Mail, Stoke City and Sheffield United are considering a move for Phil Jagielka with the Everton defender set to leave the Merseyside club.

Jagielka has spent 12 years at Everton after moving from Sheffield United. However, with his contract set to expire this summer, the 36-year-old has announced he is leaving the Toffees.

Stoke failed in their attempt to make an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation to the Championship in the 2017/18 campaign, finishing in a lowly mid-table position,

The Potters have undergone several changes. Manager Gary Rowett was sacked and replaced by Nathan Jones midway through the campaign, and now they must look to cut their squad numbers this summer.

Ashley Williams has ended his disappointing loan spell at Stoke and returned to Everton. With a void to fill at the back, Jagielka’s experience could help Stoke in their bid for promotion.

Phil Jagielka of Everton comes out for the start of the Premier League match between Everton and Leicester City at Goodison Park on January 31, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

According to Spotrac, however, Jagielka was earning a reported £50,000 per week at Everton during his final year at Goodison Park. If Stoke are serious in their interest, then the central defender would likely have to accept reduced terms.

Jagielka made over 380 appearances for Everton as he wishes to play on. The former England international could follow in the footsteps of Ashley Cole and John Terry by dropping down to the Championship.
