The Potters have parted company with Rowett and the rumour mill regarding who could take the reins is spinning, but some Stoke fans aren’t happy.
Stoke City have officially parted company with Gary Rowett following less than eight months in charge at the Bet365 Stadium.
The former Derby County manager was appointed by the Potters in May following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
However, Stoke’s hopes of being in the promotion picture haven’t gone to plan under Rowett, with the club sitting 14th in the Championship table, eight points off the playoffs.
The 44-year-old, who has claimed just eight victories from 26 league fixtures this term, saw his reign come to an end on Tuesday morning as confirmed by a brief club statement.
“A new managerial appointment will be made as swiftly as possible but in the meantime Rory Delap, Kevin Russell and Andy Quy will take charge of first-team affairs,” read the piece on the Stoke website.
Attention now turns to finding Rowett’s successor, and given Stoke’s prior reputation for being a physical, pragmatic team in tandem with present availability in the managerial market, two names have already emerged.
Sam Allardyce, the veteran manager who has been described by numerous outlets over the years as a “firefighter”, is currently a free agent, having left Everton last summer, while David Moyes is also available.
