Aston Villa have been linked with a host of goalkeepers this summer, including Stoke City’s Jack Butland, but it seems as though Burnley’s Tom Heaton is the man who will be walking through the doors of Bodymoor Heath.

Stoke City supporters on Twitter are delighted that Aston Villa are seemingly close to securing a deal for Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Villa are closing in on an £8 million deal for the 33-year-old shot-stopper, who would become Dean Smith’s 11th signing of the summer, as reported by BBC Sport.

If the newly-promoted side do secure the services of Heaton then it’ll mean that they’ll end their interest in Stoke’s Jack Butland.

All summer, Villa have been searching for a new goalkeeper and Butland has seemingly been one of the names on their wishlist, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

It means that Stoke may just keep hold of one of their key players as they prepare for the new Championship season where they will be tasked to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Stoke supporters are ecstatic because Butland staying will increase their chances of earning promotion after they produced a below-average bottom half finish last term.

But from Butland’s case, it does decrease his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of the European Championships next summer.

Whilst Stoke fans are pleased that Villa are closing on a deal for Heaton, it still doesn’t mean that Butland’s future is secure because there is still time left for England’s back-up keeper to move to the Premier League before August 8 deadline.
