Graeme Souness has stated that Everton are in a ‘good place’ regarding the relegation battle, but Leeds have to win one of their remaining matches.

Leeds dropped further points in the Premier League relegation dogfight when they were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea on Wednesday night – Souness labelled their goal difference on Sky Sports Premier League as ‘stinking’.

On the other hand, Everton recorded a point at already-relegated Watford, but given the defeat suffered by Leeds, it was a point gained by Frank Lampard’s men.

The Toffees face Brentford at Goodison Park at the weekend, including Crystal Palace next Thursday, then Arsenal on the final day.

Burnley face an away trip to Tottenham and Aston Villa, before hosting Newcastle, whilst Jesse Marsch has Brighton and Brentford to deal with.

When Jermaine Beckford claimed that he would ‘prefer’ to be in Leeds’ camp, regarding the fixtures remaining, this is what Souness had to say in response.

“Looking at those fixtures, you would prefer to be in the Leeds United camp,” said Beckford.

Souness responded: “I am thinking Everton are in a good place. They have a bit of momentum right now. We saw the Goodison Park crowd last week. They were sensational.

“I think Burnley might struggle to win any of those games. Newcastle are a very different team now.

“I think Leeds will have to win one of those games, as I see it. They have to win a game. Their goal difference is stinking.”

Leeds’ goal difference could prove to be costly in relegation fight

Leeds just can’t stop conceding goals and they can’t stop having early baths.

That’s Luke Ayling and Dan James that have been sent off in back-to-back games and both have proven to be costly.

Not only are they missing for the remaining matches, but the Whites are still sitting in the drop zone having played a game extra than both Burnley and Everton.

If Jesse Marsch’s side were to lose to Brighton on Sunday, then both Burnley and Everton could afford to drop points because Leeds are down as we speak.
