Jack Wilshere has claimed on Instagram that Santi Cazorla is ‘still the best’ after his former Arsenal teammate returned to action on Sunday for Al-Sadd.
It has been three years since Cazorla parted ways with Arsenal, which has seen him don the colours of Villarreal and now Al-Sadd in Qatar.
The 36-year-old made his first appearance of the season yesterday and he expressed on Instagram at how ‘happy’ he is to be back in action.
Wilshere responded to the technician’s message by posting ‘still the best’.
With Wilshere back training in Arsenal colours, until he finds a new club, this will make a number of supporters feel nostalgic.
Whilst Arsenal fans look back at where they currently are, no European football and that free-flowing style of play out of the window.
Many of them would love to relive the afternoons when the likes of Cazorla and Wilshere were working their magic in the middle of the park.
In recent times, it could be argued that Cazorla was probably the best technician to don the colours of the club.
The Spaniard was good enough to play during the era of the elite Arsenal sides that won Premier League title, no doubt.
He could just be pictured feeding Thierry Henry on a weekly basis, as he made his typical run from the left channel.
But, during Cazorla’s days of the club, it was only FA Cups that he lifted, including constant finishes in the Champions League.
That’s what Arsenal are struggling to do just now, which further indicates just how far the club has fallen.
It’s the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard being the expert ball-carriers in the middle of the park for the Gunners.
And if they can showcase just some of the talent that Cazorla used to produce, then they will have a long future in North London.
