Speaking on his podcast, Glenn Hoddle has been talking about Tottenham’s search for a new manager and their decision to sack Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho was of course sacked in mid-April just before the Carabao Cup final, and his dismissal was something of a surprise, given his fantastic history in cup finals and his stellar record against Pep Guardiola.
While everyone has seemingly come to terms with Mourinho’s sacking, Hoddle still simply can’t get his head around why he was sacked in the same week as a cup final.
“Yeah, there’s a lot of jobs of course. Tottenham are the high profile team that are looking for a manager, but I’m still scratching my head as a Spurs fan that Daniel Levy did it when he did, but that’s history now. Mourinho, when he woke up the Monday morning of that week he was preparing his team for a cup final and suddenly he was sacked. I don’t get that, I really don’t,” Hoddle said.

To be fair, we still can’t understand Levy’s decision to get rid of Mourinho when he did.
Did Mourinho do a good job at Tottenham? Of course he didn’t, but his saving grace was the fact that he’d gotten them to the final of the Carabao Cup, and he never even got the chance to lead the side out at Wembley.
Would Spurs have beaten Man City if Mourinho was in charge? That’s up for debate, but because Levy was so keen to get rid of him, we’ll never know the answer to that question.
