Stiliyan Petrov has suggested to The Glasgow Evening Times the effect the win against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will have had on the Celtic fans.

Celtic got the better of Rangers 1-0 at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership last weekend.

The Hoops were better than the Gers and deservedly picked up all three points from the Old Firm derby.

Celtic legend and former Bulgaria international midfielder Petrov believes that Celtic Park faithful will have calmed down after the win against Rangers.

Brendan Rodgers’s side did not start the season strongly in the Scottish Premiership and also failed to progress to the group stage of the Champions League.

Petrov has also stated that the defeat to Celtic will have proved to Rangers manager Gerrard just how far behind the Gers are behind the Hoops.

“Now Steven will know how far they are from Celtic,” Petrov told The Glasgow Evening Times. “He will assess the situation, how far they are still away from Celtic.

“My old club got the perfect result and performance and they showed they can play like the champions.

“It will take some performance to beat them. I think the fans have now calmed down after an intense couple of weeks when they did not make the Champions League.”

Gap between Celtic and Rangers

Rangers have made a good start to the season and progress to the Europa League is a success, but Celtic are by far the bets team in Scotland at the moment.

The Hoops are firm favourites for the Scottish Premiership title this season, and Rangers will have to work hard and be consistent to push their Old Firm rivals.
