The former Denmark international thinks Rangers will progress into the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League.
Sviatchenko was sent off during Midtjylland’s 1-0 league win at the weekend, receiving two yellow cards in the space of a few minutes.
Tofting has dubbed the former Celtic man “foolish” for his actions, believing that a player of his experience should not have lost his discipline in such a manner.
More relevant to Rangers though, the 40-cap Dane believes that Steven Gerrard’s team are well placed to progress to the next round of the competition.
Tofting reckons that the Gers hold a big advantage and will ensure Midtjylland fail with their big European goals.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the 49-year-old said: “FCM have been concentrating on these games in the Europa League, but I don’t believe they have a chance of beating Rangers.
“The Scots will play the second leg in Glasgow and that’s a big advantage to them.
“But if FCM go out in this round I would regard it as a failure. Their entire focus has been to be a success in Europe.”
It’s likely not going to be as easy as Tofting suggests, although there’s no reason for Rangers to be heading to Denmark with any fear.
Last summer’s run to the group stages of the competition proves this side are more than capable of grinding out the results they need to make it through these knockout ties.
A year down the line, Gerrard’s team are much improved and will fancy their chances of picking up a positive result to bring back to Ibrox for the second leg.
An away goal is vital and a draw would provide excellent foundations to go on and kill off the tie in Glasgow.
Tofting clearly feels that Sviatchenko’s side aren’t up to much. It won’t be long until we find out if he’s right or not.
