Ibrox side Rangers won the Scottish Championship title this past season and will play in the Scottish Premiership during the 2016-17 campaign.
Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has told The Glasgow Evening Times that the club are determined to compete for the Scottish Premiership title next season.
The Gers won the Scottish Championship title this past season with ease and gained automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership campaign for the 2016-17 campaign.
Celtic will start next season as favourites for the championship and will be aiming to clinch the league title in Scotland for the sixth season in a row.
Rangers managing director Robertson, though, has made it clear that the Ibrox outfit will be aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title next season.
“We have to go up, we are dealing with Rangers here, and we are in the Premiership so we have to go and compete hard,” Robertson told The Glasgow Evening Times when asked about the expectations next season.
“The objective is to win the league. We have made some good signings so far, Joey Barton is a fantastic signing for us, and Jordan Rossiter, Matt Crooks and Josh Windass as well.”
Rangers fans will expect the team to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title next season, and it seems that the club’s chiefs understand that.
The high-profile signing of former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton on a free transfer is an indication that Mark Warburton’s side mean business.
However, the Glasgow giants should also be realistic, and must not consider their 2016-17 campaign as a failure if they end up second or third in the Scottish Premiership table.
