Rangers are closing in on a deal to sign Jake Hastie, report The Scottish Sun.

Hastie has been making a big impression for Motherwell and has been called into Scotland’s under-21 squad.

It’s a wise move for Rangers, especially with concerns over whether they will be able to sign Ryan Kent permanently.

Kent has been terrific for Rangers this season. His loan deal from Liverpool has been a big success.

That has brought it’s own challenges.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson told the Scotsman just earlier this week: “He wouldn’t be cheap but if (the) opportunity comes up to retain him we will explore it. He’s a great player.

“We have an excellent relationship with Liverpool but too early to say.”

Quite simply, Rangers do not know if Kent is available.

Liverpool don’t either. That decision will be up to Jurgen Klopp, who may only decide when pre-season is over.

Rangers cannot hang about.

Their season may even kick off before Liverpool have begun their pre-season. It has the past two summers.

Rangers can’t plan on uncertainty.

Hastie is available to acquire, and unlike Kent, he is cheap.

It’s a no brainer for Rangers to get him in. And if somehow they do end up with both, that’s a positive.
