Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has given an update on the club’s search for a manager.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has been quoted by the Daily Record as saying that the club have now narrowed down their search for a new manager to ‘a few outstanding candidates’.
The Gers saw Mark Warburton – along with assistant boss David Weir and recruitment chief Frank McParland – leave the club last month, with the search for a new manager well and truly on.
With interim boss Graeme Murty seemingly not in the running for the job, Rangers will now hope to bring a new manager in as soon as possible, given that they’re lagging behind Aberdeen in the race for second place.
Whilst a host of ex-Rangers men such as Alex McLeish, Billy Davies, Frank de Boer and Derek McInnes have all been linked with moves back to Ibrox, it seems that a left-field candidate has emerged as Rangers’ top target.
The Scottish Sun report that Portuguese boss Pedro Caixinha – currently in charge of Qatari outfit Al-Gharafa – is the main man for Rangers in their search for a new boss.
Rangers will have to discuss a compensation deal with Al-Gharafa in order to land former Nacional and Santos Laguna manager Caixinha, but managing director Stewart Robertson has offered an encouraging update on the search for a new boss.
Robertson, as quoted by the Daily Record, has revealed that the search for a new boss has been narrowed down to just ‘a few outstanding candidates’, with the Gers seemingly closing in on a manager.

Robertson added that the new manager must be a winner, and suggested that the club will have funds to back whoever is appointed in the upcoming summer transfer window.
“Our search has been narrowed down to a few outstanding candidates, who we believe possess the necessary skills and attributes,” said Robertson. “We have been deliberately forensic in our search, studying every detail of each manager’s character, his work and his style and we have sought many references for those who have stood out from the rest.”
“Above all though, our next manager will be someone who understands that defeat can never be acceptable. Rangers is synonymous with winning and we will select a manager who is also a winner. Frankly, results must improve and so it is vital that we appoint soon. Doing so will also allow our new manager a few months to assess the current squad while formalising his summer recruitment plans. Again, the funds are there to support the new manager,” he added.
