Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has taken to Twitter to send a message to the fans.

Donald has urged the fans to give their full support to the team in the last three home games of the season.

Sunderland will take on Coventry City at the Stadium of Light in League One this weekend.

The other two remaining home matches for the Black Cats are against Doncaster Rovers and against Portsmouth this month.

Promotion challenge

Sunderland are second in the League One table at the moment with 80 points from 40 matches.

Jack Ross’s side are as many as seven points behind leaders Luton Town, who have played 41 games.

The Black Cats are also a point ahead of third-placed Barnsley, who have played 41 matches.

Sunderland are unlikely to win the League One title, but having a game in hand over Barnsley and a one-point advantage, the Black Cats will be very confident of finishing second in the standings.

Portsmouth are three points behind second-placed Sunderland and will also fancy their chances of finishing in the top two.
