Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has stated on Twitter that the club have not spoken about signing Phil Bardsley from Burnley in the January transfer window.

Bardsley was on the books of Sunderland from 2008 until 2014 before he moved to Stoke City.

The Scottish defender was successful during his time at the Black Cats, and the 33-year-old is now struggling for playing time at Burnley in the Premier League.

Bardsley joined Burnley from Stoke in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £1.5 million.

The former Manchester United defender has played just nine times in the Premier League so far this season, while during the 2017-18 campaign, he featured in 13 league fixtures for the Clarets, according to WhoScored.

Sunderland owner Donald has responded to a fan’s comment that the Black Cats are interested in bringing back Bardsley, stating that it is not going to happen.
