Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has taken to Twitter to send a message to the fans ahead of the League One playoffs.

Donald has praised the Sunderland fans for their support through the season, and has urged them to give their all to the team during the playoffs.

The Sunderland owner is confident that the Black Cats can negotiate through the playoffs and end up in the Championship for the 2019-20 campaign.

Jack Ross’s side have finished fifth in the League One table and will take on Portsmouth in the playoff semi-finals.

Donald has also made it clear on Twitter that Sunderland manager Ross wanted to sign Will Grigg in the January transfer window.

According to The Chronicle, the Black Cats paid Wigan Athletic £3 million in transfer fees to secure the services of the 27-year-old Northern Ireland international striker.

The former Brentford striker has struggled to make a huge impact at the Stadium of Light so far, as he has scored just four goals in 18 League One appearances for the Black Cats, according to WhoScored.
