If Sunderland can get £7 million for Paddy McNair, it would have to be considered a great piece of business from Stewart Donald.
Sunderland are facing a battle to keep hold of McNair, with Premier League interest mounting in the midfielder.
The Black Cats have already rejected bids for the Northern Irish international, with Sunderland setting their asking price at £7 million, according to the Northern Echo.
And if the League One side did receive such a vast fee for the former Manchester United man then they would have to feel very satisfied with the transfer.
Granted, McNair is one of the best players in Sunderland’s squad, and his form towards the back end of last season was impressive.
However, McNair’s injury record has to be considered a major concern.
If McNair stayed at Sunderland and was ruled out for much of the campaign again, then his value would only decrease.
And by getting £7 million, Sunderland may well get the maximum value out of McNair’s price, which would be a smart move from Donald, as he starts life at the Stadium of Light.
