Sunderland forward Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka is a promising young player.
Donald has suggested that he has asked Sunderland boss Ross not to include Mbunga-Kimpioka or any other young players in the team if they do not commit their futures to the club.
According to The Sunderland Echo, the 19-year-old forward has been offered a new contract by the Black Cats.
Donald said on the Roker Rapport podcast, as transcribed by The Sunderland Echo: “Benji Kimpioka, we’ve put a deal to him, his agent is more difficult but I’ve had a very straight forward conversation, which is a conversation that I’ve had with the entire staff.”
The Sunderland owner added: “I’ve said with Benji, and a couple of others who have got one year left, that they need to commit their future to the football club.
“I’ve said to Jack (Ross) and I’ve said to the staff, if they don’t commit you’re not allowed to play them, I don’t want players who won’t commit their future if we feel we are being fair with them with regards to the offers.”
Promotion challenge
Sunderland are aiming for automatic promotion from League One to the Championship at the end of the season.
The Black Cats are third in the league table at the moment with 80 points from 41 matches.
Ross’s side are just two points behind second-placed Barnsley, who have played 42 games, and seven points behind leaders Luton Town, who have also played 42 matches.
Sunderland will return to action on Friday evening when they take on Doncaster Rovers at the Stadium of Light in League One.
