Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has taken to Twitter to answer questions from fans about this month’s transfer window.

The Black Cats are in a strong position in League One, sitting third in the table as they pursue automatic promotion back to the Championship.

Jack Ross may need a couple of additions to get Sunderland up though, and one player fans are seemingly keen on is Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison.

Maddison posted a photo on Instagram yesterday touting ‘big news’, and as we noted last night, Sunderland fans began to wonder whether he could be heading to the Stadium of Light.

A North East boy formerly with Newcastle United, Maddison has been an assist machine for Peterborough, notching 23 last season and 14 this term.

Maddison is expected to leave Peterborough soon, and whilst Sunderland fans have been dreaming of a move, owner Donald bluntly confirmed that the Black Cats will not be signing Maddison this month.

Another matter for Sunderland surrounds Josh Maja’s future, as the striker is out of contract this summer and has so far failed to agree a new deal.

One of those classic ‘ITK Agent’ Twitter accounts – you know the ones – had made some out-of-the-blue claim that Celtic were closing in on Maja, only for Donald to state that there is no truth to that rumour either.
