Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart has told the club’s official website that he expects them to bounce back from their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Burnley at the weekend, starting with Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie at Burton Albion.

The Reds return to action at the Pirelli Stadium just three days after losing their second Premier League contest of the season, and Stewart is certain his side can bounce back and return to winning ways.

He told the club’s official website that Saturday’s defeat yielded plenty of positives on which his team can build on for the rest of the season, adding: “We lost the game but I think we still looked a threat and good going forward. We just need to carry on what we’re doing. We’ve got a really good plan, good players, great coaches and in the coming weeks we’ll improve.

“[We’ve got to] move on quickly – stick to what we’re doing, don’t get too down. I don’t think it’s too much of a problem.

“If it takes a long time for your next game to come then you think about it [a defeat] for too long. [To have] another game quickly is good for us to show everyone what we can do.”

Tuesday’s game gives Stewart the chance to return to the club he spent the final couple of months of the 2014-15 season, where he scored two goals in seven appearances to help the Brewers to the League Two title.

And he is looking forward to returning to the club as a Liverpool player.

He added: “It will be good to go back to the stadium and see everything again, see some old faces and play against them hopefully. It’ll be really exciting.”
