Leeds have been linked with a move for Hoffenheim winger Steven Zuber.

Leeds United are reportedly after Hoffenheim attacker Steven Zuber this month in a bid to boost Marcelo Bielsa’s aim of delivering promotion in his first season at Elland Road – and one trait of Zuber makes him crucial to the promotion chase.

Reliable German newspaper Bild claim Leeds are weighing up an offer for the 27-year-old winger, who scored against Brazil at the World Cup for Switzerland last summer.

He has played for top-tier German side Hoffenheim since 2014, but has only managed six Bundesliga appearances this season with the club currently sitting in seventh position.

Zuber, who has 20 Switzerland caps to his name, has even played in the Champions League this season three times – including appearances against Shakhtar Donestk and Lyon. He was an unused substitute against Manchester City.

Though the report claims that Zuber is unsure of a move to Leeds, the Whites have to do all they can to bring Zuber to Elland Road – but not only because his calibre outweighs many in the current squad.

Zuber is able to play anywhere in either midfield or attack, and has even been known to play up front as a centre-forward.

With Leeds’ physio room constantly busy this season, the Whites need players that can play in multiple positions and it is Zuber’s versatility that would make him a crucial signing.

The loss of Samu Saiz would see Zuber add much-needed cover in the middle of the park, while Jack Harrison’s questionable form would see Zuber replace him out wide. Patrick Bamford is injured, and he could add cover for Kemar Roofe.

Easily adept to play in the Premier League, Zuber would be a monumental signing for Leeds. But it is his ability to churn out consistent, top-quality performances in a number of positions that could provide the Whites with a hugely important cog in the promotion hunt.
