Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers spent big money on the 27-year-old.
Steven Thomson has said that Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena has deserved criticism this season, but believes that his brace on Friday can do wonders for him.
The Mexico international scored twice as Rangers won 3-0 at St Johnstone on Friday night.
Pena, a £2.2 million summer signing, now has four goals in six games and it seems like Gers fans are finally seeing what the club’s money bought.
It was a slow start to life in Scotland for the big-money addition though and former Rangers striker Thomson told BBC Sport Scotland that the 27-year-old hasn’t looked the part, but hopes his two-goal haul will change that.
“I think he possibly did look a bit sharper this evening. He took his goals exceptionally well,” he told BBC Sport Scotland.
“The criticism hasn’t been unfair in previous games so far this season. It has been correct. He hasn’t looked the part. But tonight will go a long way towards helping his confidence.
“It didn’t look to me as though there was a fitness issue this evening for Pena. He took his goals very, very well.”
