Jack Hendry did not play well for Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers last week.

Hendry’s performance for Celtic in their Champions League qualifier agains AEK Athens last week left much to be desired.
The 23-year-old defender – who joined the Hoops from Dundee in the January transfer window for a fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £1.2 million – featured in the second leg of the Champions League Qualifying Third Round in Greece last Thursday evening.
Brendan Rodgers’s side lost 2-1 and will not be able to play in the group stage of the Champions League this season.
Former Rangers striker Thompson has suggested that it was always going to be tough for Hendry to step up from playing for Dundee to turning out in Champions League qualifiers.
Thompson wrote in Herald Scotland: “I’m not saying that Jack Hendry isn’t a prospect as well over at Celtic, but for a player to go from the bottom end of the Premiership to being one of the centre-halves tasked with getting them into the Champions League was always going to be a huge ask, and he just wasn’t up to it.”

Good point
Thompson’s argument about Hendry makes sense, and indeed it is not easy for any footballer to make the step-up that the defender had to.
The 23-year-old is a good and promising young defender, and the Scotland international will improve in time.
