West Ham United are reportedly keen on Hibernian’s John McGinn.

Pundit Steven Thompson has told BBC’s Sportscene Live that he thinks Hibernian midfielder John McGinn will leave the club this summer – potentially to West Ham United.

McGinn, 23, has been vital for Hibernian ever since joining the club from Scottish rivals St Mirren back in 2015, as he has now racked up more than 120 appearances for the Easter Road club.

McGinn has also picked up five caps for Scotland, and his performances under Neil Lennon now mean that interest in his signature is mounting ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Daily Record reported on Sunday that West Ham United sent assistant boss Billy McKinlay to Easter Road on Saturday in order to watch McGinn in action against Aberdeen, sizing him up for a summer bid.

It would be difficult for Hibs to stand in the way of a Premier League move for McGinn, though the Hammers may need to go as high as £5million for the midfielder given Lennon’s prior valuations.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham do firm up their interest in McGinn, but after January links as well, it seems that manager David Moyes may well see his fellow Scot as a smart addition to his midfield options.

Now, pundit Steven Thompson has told BBC’s Sportscene Live that he thinks McGinn will definitely be leaving Hibernian this summer, predicting a move after impressive displays.

Thompson added that Moyes actually lined up a deal to sign McGinn at Sunderland last year before leaving the Stadium of Light, adding weight to the idea that he could be heading to West Ham this summer.

“I think John McGinn will definitely leave,” said Thompson. “I’m not giving you an exclusive, but I think he will leave in the summer. Moyes fancied him at Sunderland, when Moyes was at Sunderland I think that deal might have been quite close to going through, before Moyes got the sack,” he added.
