Steven Thompson predicts Rangers clash against Ross County

Rangers travel to the Global Energy Stadium to face Ross County on Sunday afternoon.

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has told BBC Scotland’s Sportscene Extra that Rangers will earn a narrow 2-1 win over Ross County on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers come into the match in high spirits after seeing off the challenge of Aberdeen on Wednesday night with comfortable 2-0 win over the Dons at Ibrox, thanks to goals from Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier.

All four January signings featured during the win, as Russell Martin, Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy started while Jason Cummings came off the bench to shine in the Light Blue of Rangers.

They could all start on Sunday along with another new signing in the form of Greg Docherty, and Thompson believes Graeme Murty’s January transfer dealings have significantly improved the quality of the Rangers squad.

“I think Rangers will win the game, I think it will be a right old battle. I just feel a revitalised Rangers with their new signings, for the very first time in a long time, I feel there is positivity surrounding Rangers,” Thompson said.

“The supporters feel that way as well. The players they’ve brought to the club are good signings, and when they get the injured players back, [Graham] Dorrans, [Kenny] Miller, [Lee] Wallace etc, the squad is very strong. 2-1 to Rangers.”

The Gers leapfrogged Aberdeen into second place with the midweek win and will now be desperate to remain in second place, with the intention of building a gap between themselves and Derek McInnes’ side.

They will also be hoping for Celtic to drop points at home to Hibernian, with Brendan Rodgers’ side currently 11 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
