Steven Thompson predicts Hibernian to beat Rangers

Hibernian play host to Rangers at Easter Road on Wednesday night.

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has told BBC Sportscene’s Facebook Live channel that his old side will suffer a defeat to Neil Lennon’s Hibernian on Wednesday night.

Graeme Murty takes his Rangers side to Easter Road to face Hibs in what will be a crucial clash in terms of the Scottish Premiership standings come May 2018.

Rangers currently sit in second place and just five points behind Old Firm rivals and league leaders Celtic, but Aberdeen are on level points in third on 33 with Hibs in fourth on 30.

Thompson believes Rangers’ three successive wins will not give them the momentum required to earn victory at Hibernian, and claims Lennon’s side will earn a 3-2 win.

“I think I’m going to go for a Hibs win,” Thompson said. “I don’t think Rangers were all that impressive on Saturday, but they got the win right enough.

“But Hibernian, if they can bring that level of performance they showed in the last 20 minutes [of the draw against Celtic] then Hibs 3-2.”

Hibernian earned an excellent 3-2 win last time out against Rangers at Ibrox, which saw Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier score for the home side in an enthralling encounter that also saw Ryan Jack earn his marching orders.

Lennon’s side will be buoyant after coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side on Sunday afternoon, thanks to goals from Efe Ambrose and Oli Shaw.
