The first Old Firm derby will provide both Celtic and Rangers with a great opportunity to lay down a serious marker for the season.

Steven Thompson has admitted that he is unsure that he agrees with Neil Lennon’s comments that both Celtic and Rangers have ‘improved’ this season.
On Sunday afternoon, Celtic will make the short trip across Glasgow as they face off against Steven Gerrard’s side.
Leading up to the game, Lennon questioned why people aren’t talking about his team also ‘improving’ this season, along with Rangers, as quoted by The Scotsman.
Speaking to Sportscene on BBC One Scotland (31/08/19 at 4:45 pm), former midfielder Thompson made it clear that Rangers must target Celtic’s weak defence.
On Lennon saying both sides are better: “I certainly think Rangers are,” Thompson told Sportscene. “There’s no question about that Rangers look better this year.

“Celtic I am still making my mind up defensively about them. Middle to front, they are absolutely magnificent, as we know. They’ve not managed to get a settled back four. There are still a few question marks over their defensive players.
“This is one thing Rangers can exploit. Rangers look solid at the back, whereas I don’t think Celtic are there defensively.”
There’s no doubt that both teams go into this game full of confidence following their 100% start to the season and their recent wins in Europe.
From an attacking point of view, both teams have been impressive and it wouldn’t be a surprise if there are goals galore at Ibrox.
