Steven Thompson explains why Graeme Murty will not get Rangers job

Graeme Murty is in charge of Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers following the departure of Pedro Caixinha from the Gers.

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has told BBC Sport Scotland Facebook live that Graeme Murty will not get the Ibrox managerial role.

Murty is in charge of Rangers at the moment, having taken over from Pedro Caixinha.

The 43-year-old has been handed the Ibrox managerial role only on a temporary basis, as the Gers continue to search for a permanent successor to Caixinha.

Former Rangers striker Thompson does not expect Murty to get the managerial role at Ibrox.

“He will not be the next Rangers manager because they cannot possibly install a rookie as the manager of the football club given the mistake they made with Pedro Caixinha last time around,” Thompson told BBC Sport Scotland Facebook live about Murty. “So he won’t be the next Rangers manager, but I do like him.”

According to odds on Sky Bet, Alex McLeish is the favourite for the Rangers managerial role with 10/11.

McLeish was in charge of the Gers from 2001 until 2006, as he guided the team to the league title and the Scottish Cup twice each and the Scottish League Cup on three occasions.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is the second favourite for Rangers managerial job with odds of 6/4, while the odds of Frank de Boer taking charge of the team are 8/1.

Meanwhile, Berwick Rangers midfielder Steven Notman has praised 20-year-old Rangers midfielder Jordan Thompson, with the two sides playing each other in a friendly last week.

“He started in central midfield and moved to left-back and I was really impressed with him,” Notman told The Daily Record about Thompson. “He was at Manchester United and you could see his class.”
