Ibroc favourite Josh Windass has scored nine goals in his last five games for Rangers.
Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has told BBC Sportscene Extra’s Facebook Live channel that although Josh Windass is impressing, his praise needs to be contextualised.
The 24-year-old has amassed nine goals in his last five outings for Graeme Murty’s side, as the current Rangers manager has moulded him into a number 10 despite playing out wide and deeper in midfield under Pedro Caixinha.
The former Accrington Stanley star scored a hat-trick against Hamilton on Sunday as the Gers won 5-3, adding to his first career hat-trick which he scored just over a fortnight ago in the win over Fraserburgh.
Thompson believes his old side’s man of the moment is in good form but he urged fans to consider the opposition of which he has scored against, with Fraserburgh and Ayr in divisions below the Gers.
“He’s scored nine goals in the last five games, but lets get real,” Thompson said. “Three against Fraserbugh, three against Hamilton, who are conceding more goals than anybody right now and two against Ayr United, two divisions below them.
“So when you add the games up, great he’s scored a lot of goals, but is he scoring against Hearts who are impervious? Is he scoring against Celtic? Just contextualise it. People are getting carried away. He’s doing well.”
Windass has now taken his tally to 15 goals in just 31 league and cup encounters, as well as adding eight assists in that time for the Light Blues.
Signing a new contract last week, the Rangers number 11 will be hoping to continue his excellent form in front of goal this weekend as Murty’s side play host to Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday.
