Steven Thompson claims that Celtic have been missing Ryan Christie’s ‘killer instincts’

Celtic maintained their unbeaten run under Neil Lennon by beating St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.

BBC Sport pundit Steven Thompson was left in awe of Ryan Christie’s performance for Celtic during their 2-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old, who has been recently-absent because of injury, came off the bench against the relegation-threatened outfit and got on the scoresheet to ease the nerves for his team.

Since Neil Lennon arrived in Febuary, versatile attacker Christie hasn’t featured because he has been on the sidelines, but he made his return with a bang.

Speaking to Sportscene on BBC Sport Scotland (04/04/2019 at 12:35 am), Thompson stated that the Bhoys were missing Christie’s ‘killer instincts’ in front of goal.

“I think Celtic, at times, have lacked creativity in recent weeks and he certainly a player that brings that creativity, that spark and something imaginative when games are going through a lull, ” Thompson told Sportscene.

“Celtic had lots of opportunities [against St Mirren] and lots of possession, as you would expect, but for me, they seem to be lacking the killer instinct right now. And he certainly brings that. It’s great to get him back fit because when he got injured he really was becoming such an important player to Celtic.”

The result means that Lennon’s side are now only game(s) away from lifting the Scottish Premiership title, with other results going their way dependant on how long it will take for eight-in-a-row to be confirmed.

When that is done and dusted attention will turn to the Scottish Cup and ensuring the Glasgow giants add another domestic trophy to their name.

Christie will have a big part to play in that with Derek McIness’ Aberdeen, who have picked up some big results since the turn of the year, their semi-final opponents.

Over the course of the season, Christie has played 36 games in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and supplying his teammates with nine assists [transfermarkt].
