Ex-Rangers striker Steven Thompson has lauded Ibrox new boy Connor Goldson.

Pundit Steven Thompson has told BBC Sport that he thinks new Rangers signing Connor Goldson is an ‘immense’ signing for Steven Gerrard’s side.
When Gerrard was appointed Rangers boss in May, he was charged with the unenviable task of turning the Gers into a cohesive outfit to challenge Celtic at the summit of Scottish football.
In order to do that, Rangers had to revamp their defence, and Gerrard’s signings – as well as those allowed to leave – have shown the priority for the Gers in this summer’s transfer window.
Bruno Alves, David Bates, Fabio Cardoso and Russell Martin have moved on since the end of last season, whilst Jon Flanagan, Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson have all arrived in defence, with Allan McGregor coming in between the sticks.
The biggest outlay for Rangers so far has been centre back Goldson, with Sky Sports claiming that the fee involved for the Englishman was £3million, with the defender choosing to leave Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion for Ibrox.
So far, the 25-year-old has been a mainstay of Gerrard’s Rangers side, and looks to be the well-rounded centre back the Gers have needed, possessing height, strength, aerial abiliy, pace and the ability to play out from the back.

Now, pundit and former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has spoken about the Gers’ prospects heading into the new season, and heaped huge praise on centre back Goldson.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Thompson has stated that Goldson looks to be an ‘immense signing’ for Rangers, having turned in ‘phenomenal’ early performances for Rangers, helping solidify their back line.
“It is obvious that manager Steven Gerrard has made sorting out the defence he inherited his priority and the early signs are good,” said Thompson. “They haven’t conceded a goal during pre-season. Connor Goldson seems to have been an immense signing from Brighton and, so far, the centre-half has looked phenomenal,” he added.
