Moussa Dembele has been reportedly linked with a move away from Celtic.

James Tavernier of Rangers vies with Moussa Dembele of Celtic during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has told BBC Scotland’s Sportscene Extra that Celtic should cash in on striker Moussa Dembele, as his form continues to deteriorate.

Dembele, 21, has managed eight goals in 21 league and cup appearances for the Hoops this season, a shadow of the 20 goals he had scored at the same point during the 2016-17 campaign.

The Scottish Sun claim Premier League side Brighton had a £12million offer rejected for the Frenchman earlier this month, and Thompson believes that fee would have been acceptable in his eyes for a player of Dembele’s standard.

Moussa Dembele of Celtic arrives prior to the UEFA Champions League group B match between Celtic FC and RSC Anderlecht at Celtic Park on December 5, 2017 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

He urged Brendan Rodgers’ side to sell the former Fulham forward, stating that if they receive a fee of £15million then it would be deemed “brilliant business”.

“I personally think Celtic should sell him. He scored 32 goals last season, on Burns Day last season he had 20 goals. On Burns Day this season he has eight goals,” Thompson said.

“The debate is what is his value is. I’m surprised £12m bid wasn’t accepted, if they get £15million it would be brilliant business. He’s a young boy and it is understandable that his head has been turned, but his form has not been as good.”

Dembele has been overlooked at times with Celtic also boasting the likes of Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard in the striker department, with a number of niggling injuries preventing his progress.

It remains to be seen if Dembele will remain a Hoops player by the end of the transfer window, with more than two years still to run on his existing contract at Parkhead.
