Rangers have won four games on the bounce in the Scottish Premiership.
BBC Sport pundit duo Steven Thompson and Michael Stewart have slammed Nikola Katic for the manner in which he won penalties for Rangers over the weekend.
Steven Gerrard’s side recorded a 2-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon, with both goals coming in the second half and from the penalty spot.
Speaking to Sportscene on (29/04/2019 at 12:15 am), Thompson labelled Katic as ’embarrassing’, especially for the manner in which he won the second penalty, whilst Stewart didn’t think either of the spot kicks should have been awarded.
On the first penalty: “This one for me is a penalty kick,” Thompson told Sportscene. “There is contact, but I do feel after there’s contact, Katic, I mean it’s theatrical to save the very least.”
Stewart added: “I don’t think it’s enough. You see Katic there like twisting his foot as he fell over. I don’t think it was a foul. No, I don’t think it was a penalty.”
After the game, Aberdeen boss Derek McIness made his feelings clear about Katic and told him to ‘hang his head in shame’, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Those comments were seemingly aimed at the second penalty which was awarded following a corner and this is what Thompson and Stewart thought of the incident.
On McIness’ comments on Katic: “I would concur,” Thompson stated. “I don’t think he needs to go down again theatrical. He’s basically has had his hair brushed by Considine. I’m being serious. It’s embarrassing.”
Stewart added: “I don’t mind Katic going down here. It’s the way that he stays down, he’s holding his face. He’s been touched. But don’t roll around and hold your face because that is play acting.”
That result against Aberdeen means that Steven Gerrard’s side have wrapped up the runners-up spot in the Scottish Premiership.
They will now be hoping to end the season on a high by continuing their winning run and beating their Old Firm rivals at Ibrox next month.
