Tottenham reportedly wanted Steven Sessegnon along with Ryan Sessegnon.

Steven Sessegnon showed this week he is more than just Ryan Sessegnon’s brother.

The Fulham youngster put in the best performance of his career as the team dominated opponents Millwall, winning 4-0.

Sessegnon is now stepping out of his brother’s shadow, after Ryan clinched a move to Tottenham on deadline day.

Spurs had been linked with doubling up, and signing Steven too, The Guardian reported.

As it was, Tottenham found it tough to get one deal over the line, clinching the move with just two hours to spare, on a day they also signed Giovani Lo Celso.

Getting both done wasn’t as likely, and Spurs evidently dropped their interest in Steven Sessegnon, at least temporarily.

This might end up being a mistake, if his midweek performance was anything to go by.

Sessegnon was outstanding for Fulham at right-back, shining in a position where Tottenham need reinforcement after selling Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid.

The 19-year-old managed 123 touches in the win, made three interceptions, five clearances, an completed 94 per cent of his passes.

There will be tougher tests, but this was a game where it looked like Sessegnon might go onto become a big star in his own right.

His performance at least showed why Tottenham wanted him, because of his talent, not just to keep his brother company.

Fulham owner Tony Khan was critical of Tottenham’s negotiations, Football London reported, and this might make any future deals difficult.

They will be determined to hold onto ‘the other Sessegnon brother’ as long as possible.
