Steven Pienaar has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Everton’s heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Everton were hammered 6-2 by Tottenham at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Although the Toffees took the lead through Theo Walcott in the 21st minute, Spurs launched a strong comeback thereafter and picked up all three points from the encounter with relative ease.

Former Everton and Tottenham man Pienaar was following the match, and he has urged Marco Silva’s players on Twitter to bounce back against Burnley.

The Merseyside outfit will return to action on Boxing Day when they take on Burnley away from home at Turf Moor in the Premier League.

Everton’s performance against Tottenham on Sunday evening was their worst of the season so far.

It underlined the gap that exists between the Toffees and the top teams in the Premier League, and highlights just how much Everton need to improve.

Given Everton’s lofty ambition, they will eventually get there, but it could take a few more years for the Merseyside club to genuinely challenge for the Premier League top four.
