Steven Naismith has played for Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers before and is open to returning to the Gers, who are under the charge of Graeme Murty.

Norwich City striker Steven Naismith has suggested to The Daily Mail that he is open to joining Ibrox club Rangers in the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, was on the books of Rangers from 2007 until 2012.

The Scotland international striker, who started his professional club football career at Kilmarnock, then moved to Everton and subsequently to Norwich in 2016.

Naismith is struggling for playing time at the Canaries in the Championship in England, and the former Gers star has suggested that he would be open to the idea of playing for his old club Rangers again.

The Scotsman told The Daily Mail: “I wouldn’t say I have unfinished business with Rangers because we were successful and won a lot of trophies when I was there.

“Unfortunately, the way I left wasn’t great. I still watch all their games on TV and still speak to all the players and staff I know at the club. I love hearing how things are going. I still support Rangers and I want them to do well.”

Naismith added: “A return to Rangers would appeal. I’ve spoken in the past about Kilmarnock and Rangers and being appreciative for what they did for me as a player. I would look at those clubs and see if they were options to start with.”

Naismith worked with current Rangers caretaker-manager Graeme Murty at Norwich, and the 31-year-old appreciates that it must be hard for him at Ibrox at the moment.

“It’s hard for Murts,” Naismith told The Daily Mail. “He was at Norwich before so I’ve had some dealings with him and he’s a great coach. It’s a very difficult situation for him.”

Naismith has recovered from the ankle ligament damage he suffered in training and is now fully fit.

The Scotland international has made two appearances in the Championship and one in the EFL Cup of Norwich so far this season.

Meanwhile, Rangers forward Eduardo Herrera has admitted that he has been surprised by the pace of Scottish football and told The Daily Record: “Here, the game is faster. In Mexico, it is more technical and tactical. Here, all the time it is a really good pace.

“Sometimes you don’t feel like you have proper control of the game because it is from one end to another.

“I had to adapt to the type of football here and I’ve been working hard. I’ve been getting in shape and lost two or three kilos in weight, so I’m in good shape.”
