Norwich City have been trying to cut down their significant wage bill this summer, with plenty of their high-earners already being told they will be released by the club.

Steven Naismith, who is contracted to Carrow Road until 2019, was also reportedly being considered for release – according to the Sun.

The forward is keen on staying, so leaving for free is not likely, but teams will be alerted to his potential availability. One such team might be Leeds United.

There are several reasons to believe Leeds would be keen on his signature.

Garry Monk, who is currently resolving his future at Elland Road, has wanted him before at Swansea City, but was sacked in the December before he could have signed him.

Naismith went on to join Norwich a year later, in a deal reported by the Sun to be worth £8.5 million.

Now he is available, he would be perfect for Monk’s system. He could operate as the one behind Chris Wood in Monk’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation or operate from out wide or in a 4-4-2.

He would seemingly cost much less than the £8.5m that Norwich spent on his signature and Leeds would be getting their hands on a player who could be perfect for their system.
