Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers are eight points behind Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic.

Following Rangers’ goalless draw with St. Johnstone at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon, manager Steven Gerrard suggested that the Gers are out of the title race.
Gerrard told Sky Sports: “Right now forget titles and forget closing gaps, the reality is to perform like that across the board in front of 50,000, well there’s your evidence.”
The Liverpool legend was clearly not impressed with his players’ performance against St. Johnstone, and although emotions must have been running high after the match, his aforementioned comments do have merit, and his verdict on the Gers’ title chances was vindicated by what happened on Sunday.
Celtic were not in action until Sunday, and the Hoops needed a late goal from Scott Brown to get the better of Kilmarnock 1-0 away from home at Rugby Park.
The results mean that the Hoops are now eight points clear of second-placed and bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers.

The gap between Celtic and Rangers is not exactly unsurmountable, but Brendan Rodgers’s side are on a roll in the Scottish Premiership, and it is hard to see the Bhoys suffer a collapse.
Rangers, though, should not give up just yet, and manager Gerrard must try to make his team more consistent in the coming weeks and months.
